This spectacular Mexican Colonial style home has spacious rooms with open beam ceilings and fireplaces. Part of the original construction is about 250 years old, which allows this magnificent property to offer hundreds of years of character as well as modern conveniences.
Two colorful king suites are located on either side of the living room, a 3rd large bedroom is located on the second level, and a 4th king suite with a private terrace awaits above.
Three terraces at different levels invite alfresco dining and relaxing, under shady loggias. The uppermost terrace provides an amazing vista of the city, mountains, and lake.
The house is entered via a centuries-old arched cantera doorway, guarded from above by a statue of San Miguel, the patron of the town.
A natural stone fountain serenades the entryway, across from an arched opening that provides a glimpse of the Escheresque stairway to the upper levels.
The spacious living room is graced by a fireplace and open beamed 14 ft. ceilings. A cantera arch dating from the original construction transitions into the dining room. An antique mesquite mesa sits 8 people comfortably.
The well-equipped kitchen adjoins the breakfast room, which has the original hearth area, and a sunlit office with wi-fi and internet available. A shaded terrace outside the breakfast room invites you to dine alfresco, surrounded by arches and sheltered by the imaginative boveda (vaulted ceiling) and cupola.
The master bedroom is large and spacious, with a cupola skylight & a chiminea perfect for romantic nights. The master bath has a Jacuzzi tub surrounded by natural stone emerging through the walls, and a spectacular stained-glass partition separating the tub from the large, well-lit central area of the bathroom. The design is unique, created in harmony with the natural beauty surrounding the casa. There is a separate shower area as well.
The second suite is also quite large and has a chiminea as well as a private arched entrance from the front patio. This suite has a beautifully tiled bathroom with a sunken tub, graced by a mural on the shower wall.
Ascending the dramatic stairs, you arrive on the largest terrace, with comfortable conversation areas, surrounded by colorful arches & sheltered by a tiled roof and skylights. The table and chairs under a beautifully crafted boveda (vaulted ceiling) create an attractive alcove. This level is perfectly positioned for watching the beautiful birds that visit our trees. Also on this level is a covered kitchen area with sink, gas stovetop and a BBQ grill.
Soaring above the treetops, the uppermost terrace, where the 4th bedroom, a king suite, is located, beckons with stunning vistas of scarlet sunsets, sparkling fireworks and moonlit Mexico. Illuminated cathedrals in the Centro are framed by majestic mountains beyond the lake.
